In my 20+ years of working with couples, I have incorporated a variety of different theoretical frameworks into my approach, including Harville Hendrix' IMAGO model and more recently, John Gottman's groundbreaking research on destructive relationship patterns and what strategies can lead to more satisfying relationships.
In our work together, the focus will usually be on three overall dimensions of your relationship: creating a climate of safety, fostering greater mutual respect, and clarifying what you each want and need (it usually happens in that order). Sometimes the commitment to the relationship is solid; you just need to learn new skills to foster a healthier relationship.
Just like in my work with individuals, we start where you are, clarifying what your goals are for our time together. Even those couples who believe that their relationship is over can benefit from an objective third person to help them end the relationship with respect and dignity.
