My Background
I am a psychologist with over 20 years of experience helping people solve problems and improve their lives. Using a respectful and compassionate approach, I can help you to make peace with your past, learn the lessons that may be there for you and to move forward in a more hopeful way.
I bring my strong identity as a psychologist to my work as a psychotherapist. I have a BA and MA in Clinical Psychology from Bradley University. I have a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
I approach my work with a collaborative "partnering" style -- I am an active therapist. I will treat you with respect, dignity, and concern. While I have certain knowledge and expertise, you are the expert of your own life. I am committed to honoring the complexity of each person's story.
My role as a therapist is to empower you to recognize and unleash your own resources to understand something better, or make peace with something that cannot be changed, or create a plan to tackle a problem that can be solved.
While most of my career has been devoted to psychotherapy, I have worked in many different settings and provided a variety of psychological services to women, men, couples, children, and families -- including foster care, adoption, outreach to single parents, child custody evaluations, and services to juvenile offenders and families.
I bring a solid and diverse background to the work I do today -- helping women, men, and couples enhance the quality of their lives.
